In the face of declining attendance and employee layoffs, the San Diego Zoological Society is replacing its director of operations, Larry Parker.
Parker was a zoo employee for two years.
Anita Boeker, Parker's former assistant, said Parker left the last week of May. She declined to discuss the circumstances surrounding his departure.
Parker was instrumental in setting the marketing course for the San Diego Zoo and San Diego Wild Animal Park after Franklin & Associates won the $3.5 million advertising account from Phillips-Ramsey in 1988, Boeker said. Phillips-Ramsey had handled the account for 20 years.
