Abstract
Banco Santander's ties with Latin America run deep throughout the 157-year-old company's history. Funded by Spanish businessmen with trade links to the Americas, the bank has operations in Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Peru and Puerto Rico, serving more than 44 million customers. Jorge de Gortari, head of emerging markets & credit, sales & trading at Santander, says it's precisely this strong local presence that enabled it to win best bank for emerging LatAm currencies.
