It was a touching moment for Frank Dominguez three weeks ago when colleague Richard Briggs recounted what he had said 15 years ago: that Dominguez would "strike it big" one day. "He told me, 'Look at what you have built, and how many people you employ,' and I felt proud," says Dominguez, who, last week, was named the U.S. Small Business Administration's 1999 New Jersey Minority Small Businessman of the Year.
"They recognized the team I built," says Dominguez, who is president of Elizabeth's Imperial Construction Group, a private electrical and construction contracting firm he founded 13 years ago. While setting up Imperial, he roped in Briggs, a colleague at his former employer, Vogel Electric of Union. Briggs is vice president-scheduling.
