New fiction for November includes "I Saw The Light" by Terry Bisson and "Shipbreaker" by Paul Di Filippo, "The Wages Of Syntax" by Ray Vukcevich, and "Godfather Earth" by Richard Bowes . Classic fiction includes Racoona Sheldon's "The Screwfly Solution" and "FlashPoint" by Gardner Dozois.
Terry Bisson's "I Saw The Light" is easily the best story of a great bunch. Bisson starts us out slowly, introducing us to a former astronaut and her dog in the Arizona desert. Suddenly, as only suddenly can happen in fiction, flashes are spotted on the moon; a moon abandoned for lack of interest and money. A team is quickly put together and the woman is selected, having to leave her dog with a neighbor who happens to be an ex FBI agent, which not surprisingly is a pretty important fact as far as the story goes.
