When Utah's SCO Group Inc. announced in mid-November that it would sue "a large user of Linux" in the following 90 days, some companies became concerned that they might be vulnerable to an expensive lawsuit.
The Open Source Development Lab (OSDL), a Linux industry association located in Beaverton, has posted two white papers on its web site since the legal turmoil began, offering Linux users information and some "peace of mind," according to Stuart Cohen, CEO of OSDL. The papers outline the legal issues and explain the nature of the General Public License, but stop short of offering legal advice.
