Scriptgen Pharmaceuticals, a local biotech company, has traded in its name and an undisclosed number of shares to merge with two other organizations and form an international drug discovery firm.
The new company is called Anadys Pharmaceuticals. It will be based in San Diego, Calif., but retain Scriptgen's Medford facility as well as a third location in Heidelberg, Germany.
"Many of our very competent workers are here," said Mark Weedon, chairman of Anadys and former president and chief executive officer of Scriptgen. "There will be a lot of travel and telecommuting."
More than 65 of Anadys' 75-member staff currently are located in Medford. Weedon said the number of employees should jump to 100 by the end of the year, adding new jobs primarily at its San Diego...
