Custom Agri Systems, Inc., of Napoleon, Ohio, has received a $250,000 grant from the Michigan Department of Agriculture to use toward the construction of a soybean seed crushing operation and an adjacent biodiesel refinery in Reading, Michigan. Custom Agri Systems, owned by Bill Dunbar and Rick, Esther, Brad, and Gary Storch, specializes in the building of grain elevators at its five branches. It was one of 225 applicants for the Julian-Stille Value-Added Agriculture Development program grant and one of 40 recipients to be awarded a portion of $4.7 million.
Construction of the soybean-crushing project is set to begin in the next month, according to the company. Initial work includes the pouring of concrete for the soybean seed crushing operation.
