The Swedish commercial bank Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken agreed Tuesday, Oct. 1, to buy Europay Norge AS, which has rights to the Eurocard brand in Norway, for NKr1 billion ($135 million) from six Norwegian banks.
The acquisition, via subsidiary SEB Kort, which has activities in all Nordic countries, makes it the leading card issuer in Norway, and expands its operations with the Diners Club International and MasterCard international networks as well as with Eurocard.
The sellers of Europay Norge were: Fokus Bank, Den norske Bank, Nordea Norway and SpareBank 1 Gruppen, each with 18.75% of shares; and Nordlandsbanken and Romdals Fellesbank, each with 12.5%.
