Sept. 20 is the slated date for Louisville's new Von Maur department store to open in Oxmoor Center. And company officials say work is moving ahead on the $9 million construction project.
Main aisles with marble floors, working fireplaces and a grand piano played during store hours are among highlights of the new Von Maur department store, said Jim yon Maur, president of the Davenport, Iowabased department store chain.
Demolition of the former Jacobson's department store space inside the mall began in January, and Pepper Construction Co. of Indianapolis is handling the building project.
New store has 'residential' atmosphere
Jim von Maur said the bulk of the work is interior renovations, but some minor exterior changes are being made, including repainting the brick white and adding a few windows.
"We know what customers want, and so we've designed our store that way," von Maur said. "We want to have a very residential-feeling store."
As a result, von Maur said features of the roughly 150,000square-foot, two-level store will include:
