Sharp's Internet ViewCam uses another compression format, MPEG-4, to do its job, which is limited to capturing relatively low-quality video for use on the Web or in e-mail.
Don't let the acronym confuse you: MPEG-4 is quite different from the MPEG-1 of the Hitachi. MPEG-4 is designed for low Internet data rates, which are 15 to 20 times slower than MPEG-1.
