GREATER CHINA
* Argentina is close to signing a new currency swap deal with China to add US$9 billion worth of funds to the Latin American nation's dwindling reserves, Reuters reported, citing the Central Bank of Argentina.
* Taiwan's central bank said outstanding international claims by domestic banks on a direct risk basis to China totaled US$44.62 billion as of the end of June, down from US$46.91 billion at the end of March, the Taipei Times reported. The central bank said the decline was due to a weakened yuan against the U.S. dollar in the second quarter as trade friction between the U.S. and China escalated, prompting international funds to flow to the U.S. currency.
* Taiwan-based Shin Kong Financial Holding Co. Ltd. closed the acquisition of MasterLink Securities Corp. and said Catherine Lee, vice chairwoman of Shin Kong Financial, would step in as vice chairman of the unit, the Taipei Times reported. The paid-in capital of the parent company will exceed NT$120 billion after the acquisition, the news outlet noted.
