Shiseido has started using a tamper-evident clear carton for six skincare products in the Whitia Series. The product cannot be opened without cutting the perforated line. This not only gives consumers a sense of security but also proves the freshness of the product. Most tamper-evident clear cartons so far depend on sticker labels and only a few cosmetics manufacturers use them. Osaka Shiseido's wrapping technology group has developed this new package. The package has to be sealed well enough to tolerate transportation, but it should be easy for consumers to open and should not cost more than other packaging. In collaboration with packaging maker Tobi, the group has developed a mechanism with a hook-shaped lock at the middle of the carton's top flap and the perforation was made at the base of the lock. After the product is enclosed, the lock is inserted into the cut at the inside flap. Lifting both sides of the top flap to cut the perforation opens the package. Shiseido plans to expand usage of this tamper-resistant clear carton for other products.
