The Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation Society (ISA; Research Triangle Park, N.C.) will hold this year's ISA Expo at Houston's Reliant Center on October 17-19. The exhibition will feature more than 400 exhibitors and these specialty product pavilions: Sensors Fair, Industrial Communication and Environmental. The simultaneously offered technical conference delivers a wide range of learning opportunities as industry experts share the latest trends and technologies in safety and security, environmental and quality controls, industrial networking, process automation and systems integration.
Highlighting the daily keynote addresses will be Peter M. Batey, refinery manager at the Alliance Refinery for ConocoPhillips, who will address the effects of Hurricane Katrina on the refinery, and Dr. Trevor Kletz, a leading authority on industrial safety, who will deliver the Rimbach Lecture. Honoring Richard Rimbach, long considered the father of ISA for his lifetime service to the industry and for his leadership in founding the Society, The Rimbach Lecture Series reflects Rimbach's vision in technology advances, training and motivation.
Special forums that offer insight into cutting-edge topics, ideas and theories bring leading industry professionals together to share their expertise and vision. One of these forums is "The Security and Safe Operation Of Wireless Devices in a Hazardous Environment," which will address the maze of issues that surround this topic.
Other highlights include a training and continuing education program and automation standards briefings. Details can be found on ISA's website (www.isa.org/expo). Here is a sample of some of the products and services that will be on display.
Capture data with these economical modules
These USB data-acquisition modules (photo) are 8-channel units that feature multifunction I/O, digital I/O and temperature-measurement capabilities. The modules offer features normally available in higher-priced units, such as plug-and-play PC setup and a versatile software suite for easy operation. Temperature monitoring or general process data can be captured. Booth 2400 - Cole-Parmer, Vernon Hills, Ill.

Use this device with springreturn pneumatic actuators
The Impact Spring Assist (photo) provides increased torque output in excess of 50r,'i at the "spring end" of pneumatically operated spring-return actuators. The Impact device also protects against droop or loss of supply-air pressure. The unique design of the device utilizes the "trapped pressure" from the pressurized side of the actuator and routes it to the spring side...
