SilverPlatter's new software, SPIRS version 2 (SPIRS2) has the powerful and user-friendly features we have come to expect from a good interface program. SPIRS2 installation software, now contained on one disc, is easy to install and, as before, does not interfere with other programs on the hard drive. New administrative options allow individual sites to customize default settings such as the field displays in the Show and Print commands and the drive selected for downloading citations. If settings or installation paramenters need to be changed, the software is easily reconfigured. CD-ROM network capability, which is dependent upon the license agreement with SilverPlatter, can be selected from within the installation program.
SilverPlatter's online and written documentation continues to be very good. The manual is clear, well-written and always includes a chapter on the specific database being used. A Quick Reference Card provides an overview of function keys, options and capabilities. Help, tutorial screens and tool-free telephone support are still available for the user.
