Last month Intuit Canada launched an online version of its QuickBooks small business accounting software. The Internet-based service is easier to set up and maintain than the packaged software version of Quick- Books. However, QuickBooks Online (qbo.ca) isn't a direct replacement for the desktop software since it doesn't offer the same depth of accounting capabilities.
There are three variants of QuickBooks Online: EasyStart, $9 per month; Essentials, $19 per month; Plus, $29 per month.
EasyStart, the entry-level service, offers the most limited set of capabilities, handling customer invoicing and financial statements. It's limited to a single user.
Essentials, a step up, can serve up to three users and also handles supplier payments and multi-currency. It offers more reports than EasyStart , over 40 compared to 14.
Plus is the most capable Quick- Books online service with more than 65 reports, and supports up to five users. It adds budgeting, job and project tracking and can track data for different business locations.
QuickBooks Online is aimed at service businesses, since it does not offer inventory capabilities that are essential for tracking products. Time tracking and...
