Tablet PC hits the mark, delivering more power and ease of use
CRN Test Center engineers have seen the "writing on the tablet" for the future of mobile computers.
ViewSonic's new ViewPad 1000 tablet PC represents the company's first computer. The 4.3-pound unit measures 12.2 inches high, 8.9 inches wide and 1.4 inches thick.
Running Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, the ViewPad 1000 features a 10.4-inch, touch-sensitive TFT display with a native resolution of 600 x 800 pixels. It has an 800MHz Intel Celeron processor, a 10-- Gbyte hard drive, 128 Mbytes of memory (expandable to 512 Mbytes) and one Type II PC Card slot. The 5400 mAH Lithium Ion battery provides up to 3.5 hours of runtime.
The ViewPad also includes a built-in digital CCD camera that supports 15-frames-per-second streaming video and can capture still images. The pivoting camera can face the...
