SOLVAY-For some companies, recycling is one big headache. For Solvay Paperboard, recycling is the basis for one big business.
The company sold S65 million worth of containerboard last year.
"It's made with 100-percent recycled fiber," says James B. Porter, vice president and CEO of Solvay Paperboard, LLC, about the company's product.
Raw material arrives in the form of discarded cardboard boxes that are processed into 7,000-lb. rolls of new containerboard. The company sells containerboard to box manufacturers in Can-ada and the northeastern U.S.
"Our raw materials go through an extensive recycling process to create clean fiber," says Porter.
Cardboard boxes are composed of three layers of containerboard-an outer layer, a corrugated center, and an inner layer.
