Investing more than $6 million to beef up production is a tall order for any small company - even for entrepreneurs with nerves of steel.
However, the owners of Akron-based Specialty Metals Processing Inc. are counting on their big investment paying off because of the company's ability to process complex metal alloys, such as titanium, in a region where there's a small number of competitors.
The 40-person company has spent about $4 million to buy and renovate a 160,000-square-foot building on Seasons Road in Hudson and another $2 million on new equipment, which they're waiting to install at the Hudson site.
Specialty Metals plans to relocate its headquarters next September to Hudson from its current location at 1100 Home Ave. in Akron - a move that will double the company's space and will allow for added work.
