In an attempt to help address-the nursing shortage, Louisville's Spencerian College has-applied to expand its nursing program to prepare students to become registered nurses.
The college is awaiting state approval to begin its associate of nursing degree program, and it already has a number of students interested in enrolling in the program, which could begin by later this year.
The Kentucky Board of Nursing could approve the program by next month, according to the board's general counsel, Nathan Goldman.
The college, part of the Sullivan Colleges System, plans to spend about $1.5 million to build an 8,000-square-foot addition to its Louisville campus, 4627 Dixie Highway. The addition will include classrooms and a chemistry lab. 'Me college already has hired a director for the program and would hire up to six new faculty members to teach classes.
