Splash Studios' President and CEO Patrick Ford plans to take advantage of the proprietary Splash gaming engine called SAGE (splash animation gaming engine) as he fashions his content company to prepare for interactive TV.
Meantime, Ford said he has no plans to license the tools, which can "mix multiple audio and video streams" under Video for Windows.
Comparing SAGE to 7th Level's Top Gun, Ford said, "we couldn't have done something like this with Director."
By building on the engine, Splash was able to turn Piper from a concept to a finished product in nine months.
As he positions his company to capitalize on the new-media form, Ford said he is realistic about a short-term return on his investment.
"We're not holding our breath or expecting to generate a lot of revenue from it initially" the former Microsoft Corp. executive told MULTIMEDIA WEEK.
