With the exception of a couple shows, the 17-day Ohio State Fair in Columbus finalized its concert lineup at indoor Celeste Center (cap. 10,200) with more free admission events than usual, said in-house talent buyer Brett Chance. He works in tandem with Triangle Talent to produce live entertainment.
The fair awaited confirmation from Pinnacle Entertainment of rap-rock act Uncle Kracker for Aug. 4 and the possibility of two more classic rock dates, including the Blue Oyster Cult/Foghat package from Paradise Artists. Grand Funk Railroad, represented by Monterey Peninsula Artists, was another tentative. Fair dates are Aug. 1-17. The talent budget is $650,000.
Joan Jett & the Blackhearts are booked for Aug. 3. "We've worked with the Ohio Lottery's Cash Explosion show and may do that again this year. If not, I'm going to try to get another classic rock group for Aug. 1 or on the evening of Aug. 5, since the Glenn Miller Orchestra is doing an afternoon performance at 1 p.m.," he said.
