Music promotion, much like everything else in the industry, is ever evolving. Crystal and Cheryl Long hope their new venture is ahead of the curve.
The Nashville sisters, 22 and 19 respectively, recently launched Pewter To Platinum, a promotions and management company. Having cut their teeth on street teams for various artists, they saw early on the opportunity to take street-team promotions in a new direction.
"We didn't like the way they worked, the way they were run," Crystal Long says. "They just weren't very effective. We liked the idea of street teams, of people getting out the word about bands, just not the way it was being done." A friend told them that British pop act BBMak was about to be launched statewide. The two liked the band, so they set their plan in motion. Cheryl called the band's label and, after discovering that not much had been done in terms of advance promotion, offered her services to build a street team for the group.
