When Sprint PCS rolls out its nationwide 3G network this summer, it's banking on messaging being one of the hottest, if not the hottest, consumer applications for the always-on network. Double that expectation for the enterprise.
At its first users conference today, the carrier planned to announce it will offer its Business Connection Enterprise Edition as an essential part of its CDMA2000 1XRTT launch. The service, which uses software from Seven Inc., is similar to the personal edition the carrier launched earlier this year that offers wireless access to e-mail, calendar and contacts. The main difference between the two is the personal edition has software loaded on a desktop PC, while the enterprise edition is corporatewide.
Cingular Wireless has a similar e-mail solution, also from Seven, called Cingular Xpress Mail.
