The Radisson Broadview Hotel, located at 400 W. Douglas, is facing two tax liens totaling more than $250,000.
The liens, filed this month, are for failure to pay state sales taxes and state transient guest taxes. Mike Aaron, general manager of the hotel, says the owner of the property - Miami hotelier Mordechei Boaziz - is working out the tax issues with the Kansas Department of Revenue.
"They will go away," Aaron says. "He's making arrangements with the department to pay it down."
The Broadview isn't the only property Boaziz owns that is having tax problems.
He also owns the Ramada Inn at 7335 E. Kellogg, which owes almost $140,000 in state sales and transient guest taxes.
Boaziz was unavailable for comment.
The condition of the Broadview is of special interest to local tourism officials because of its downtown location and ability to attract conventions to Century II. But the hotel has struggled through the years with several ownership changes, poor revenue and the need for major renovations. Aaron, who has been at the Broadview for about a month, is the third general manager at the hotel since 2001.
After years of talking about modernizing the hotel, a full renovation "from top to bottom" was completed last year, Aaron says.
