Furniture retailer Steinhafels will house a warehouse and distribution center, corporate headquarters and retail store under one roof in the city of Pewaukee when a $22 million project is completed next year.
Construction of the 425,000-square-foot building is underway at the southwest corner of Highway 164 and Interstate 9 4.
The new structure will double the warehousing and office space of the company's current facility at 162 5 0 W. Rogers Drive in New Berlin that will be closed. The retail portion of the new building will replace an existing store on Moreland Boulevard in Waukesha and will be family-owned Steinhafels' largest retail outlet.
The 69-year-old company employs about 500 people and has annual sales of about $80 million.
Site work began for the project in September, but the retailer began discussions with Pewaukee officials in 199 7.
Finding a site appropriate for warehousing and retail was a challenge, but the Steinhafels believed they found the best of both worlds in Pewaukee. The interstate provides the store with high visibility and the distribution center with good accessibility...
