In peacetime, the Slovenian Armed Forces numbers around 4,100 professional members (officers, NCOs and professional soldiers) and 5,000 to 6,000 conscripts at a time. When completely mobilized, it numbers around 56,000 members. The Slovenian Armed Forces are composed of Manoeuvre Forces and. Territorial Forces. Manoeuvre Forces are the main forces which are trained, equipped and tasked for combat activities under all conditions and over the entire Slovenian territory. They consist of brigades and unrelated battalions which are subordinate to Force Commands and the General Staff.
In peacetime, the formation structure of the manoeuvre forces allows for autonomous work, the training of conscripts doing military service and the implementation of measures for permanent combat readiness.
The Force Commands are the highest operational and army-territorial commands in their area of responsibility. A Force Command is in charge of all the forces in its area of responsibility and carries out the integration of joint tactical, support and army territorial command units, while the area of responsibility of the AF/AD Command is the whole airspace of the Republic of Slovenia.
The Air Force and Air Defence Operational Command is composed of joint manoeuvre Air Force and Air Defence Forces, thus forming a unified command and control system, autonomous training, efficient maintenance of permanent combat readiness.
Territorial units are designed to provide military control of the territory, secure state borders, safeguard facilities of special importance for defence purposes, carry out countercommando activities, provide mobility and intelligence information, guard prisoners...
