Some may snort at the thought of owning a Ford Motor Co. Crown Victoria or Mercury Grand Marquis for the simple reason that the cars are too mature.
Certainly the 65- to 70-year-old average age of a Crown Vic/Marquis buyer does nothing to dispel thoughts that the cars are soft riders.
All of that could change, however, with the '98 Crown Vic and Grand Marquis. Borrowing the redesigned frame (albeit 3ins. shorter), suspension and a host of other goodies from the surprisingly dynamic new '98 Lincoln Town Car, the two sedans have been transformed from sedate to nearly sporty, no small feat considering the cars have gained 100 lbs. and now tip the scales at more than 3,900 lbs.
"We believe we will attract a younger buyer with these improvements," says Marla Frazier, vehicle line brand manager for Crown Victoria.
