Located on the University of California, Berkeley campus, Sutardja Dai Hall is a multi-disciplinary research center and headquarters for the Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society (CITR1S) @ Berkeley Despite its new construction, the 141,000-square-foot building was ripe with opportunities to increase its energy efficiency.
"Sutardja Dai Hall was originally slated to earn ENERGY STAR and LEED, but these were eventually value engineered out of the design, so we knew from the onset of benchmarking that there was room for improvement," explains Jolie Chan, sustainability coordinator for CITRIS @ Berkeley.
