Sylvan Learning Inc., a private tutoring service serving primarily students in grades pre-K through 12, has sold its center at 5632 S. Redwood Road in Taylorsville to Alpine entrepreneur and franchisee Michael Loudon.
Loudon has also purchased territory rights for northern Utah County and the South Jordan area. He plans to open another Sylvan location in American Fork later this year and one in South Jordan in the next few years.
There are 1,200 Sylvan Learning Centers in the U.S. and Canada, Loudon said, with two million students served in the past several years. The centers are a combination of corporate-owned and franchise-owned enterprises.
The Sylvan system assesses interests, comprehension and basic skills in math, reading and writing to identify the strengths and weaknesses of each child, as well as determine where each child falls in the context of national rankings.
