It's time for a review of the 24 7 Broking system in these columns, following my most worthwhile visit to the offices of Rarrigini & Rosso in Peterborough, in the company of CEO Julie Rodilosso and group information officer Mike Duncan.

Fortget all the build-up hype surrounding that famous launch: the system is now fully live and competing with the other new boys and established players. Importantly, there is a sense of renewed focus all round, with Julie Rodilosso magnetically enthusiastic about the whole thing.

24 7 Broking Ltd is now a discrete company within the R&R Group, with the stronger purpose and accountability that follows. Fifty people work for 24 7, including eight on customer implementation and training. The system is fully demonstrable with functionality in place and with no questions of "vapourware".

Julie Rodilosso will now admit that the delivery of the system was slower than expected - and to be fair, what do you expect for such a comprehensive venture funded to the tune of L7 million? She now concedes that getting 24 7 together to cater for the personal lines side was a big reason for the delay - and clearly R&R had to get this area right for the composite broker they now set out to attract. It has been necessary to re-jig the set-up so that all motor and household quotes provided by R&R's own quote system are 100% Polaris, either specified by the insurer or done by 24 7 Broking on the insurers' behalf. Currently ten motor insurers have products on the system for quotes and EDI.

Five brokers are live at the moment, including Yorkshire-based T.L. Dallas, one of 24 7 Broking's original pilots. Four other brokers are in pilots and have been throughout this year, including Thompson Rudd and John Eke & Partners. Julie Rodilosso is grateful for the support (and no doubt the patience) of the pilot brokers and supporting insurers. She expects 20 customer sites to be installed by this Christmas.
