Smartphones aren't the only multiplatform mobile device disrupting the insurance industry. Graeme Boddy, VP and CIO of Raleigh, N.C.-based Builders Mutual Insurance Co., discusses how carriers could put tablet PCs to work.
Tell us about Builders Mutual's business model.
Boddy: Probably 60 percent of our business is workers' compensation, and the rest is other lines, such as general liability, commercial package and commercial auto. Part of what we do is insure the construction trade. ... We will go in at the request of an underwriter or contractor and see how we can improve the safety, looking at how they can do simple things, such as fall protection.
