Business Software SMB: Kerio Mail Server
A cost-effective alternative to Microsoft Exchange, Kerio Mail Server 6.1 is compatible with the Outlook client. The server offers some benefits over Exchange, such as an embedded version of McAfee security software and antispam tools, and notably runs on Linux and Mac OS X servers in addition to Windows. According to Jim Hurd, CEO of solution provider Hurd IT, Kerio Mail Server outperforms Exchange, Lotus Notes/Domino, Novell GroupWise and other e-mail/groupware products on several fronts, including support for built-in archiving. It scales particularly well on Linux, Hurd notes, and can cost from 40 percent to 60 percent less than Exchange. Kerio Mail Server supports Active Directory as well as LDAP. It can also unify access to e-mail, calendar and contacts by synchronizing wirelessly with smartphones. Supported mobile platforms include Treo with Palm OS, Windows Mobile, Symbian and BlackBerry.
