When we tested Legato Systems Inc.'s NetWorker for NetWare, Version 3.0, for our July 4 product comparison of NetWare Loadable Module (NLM) tape backup software, we overlooked a key feature that speeds up NetWorker's backup performance on client workstations. (For a comment from Legato, see To the Editor, page 45.)
NetWorker is the only product of the four we tested that can concurrently back up multiple servers and clients to a single tape drive. (Legato calls this parallelism.) When we retested with this feature enabled, the benchmark times showed a considerable improvement. Our original test backed up a total of 78MB on one Windows and one DOS client.
