Abstract

Taqua recently introduced the iX7000 packet interface and iX700 line access gateway that together serve as the foundation of the company's Intelligent Converged Network (ICON). ICON offers 2 key benefits to carriers: It brings switching intelligence to the network edge, and it allows carriers to progressively upgrade their networks, rather than employing a rip-and-replace strategy that would be prohibitive for smaller carriers, particularly rural carriers. The iX7000 allows carriers using Taqua's Open Compact Exchange voice switching system to upgrade those units simply by inserting an IP switch card that carries all Class 5 functions, including call processing, service logic, switch fabric, media processing, and signaling.
