Tarmac and Lafarge to merge as new construction materials firm

Tarmac is to merge with Lafarge Cement UK to form a new construction materials firm after the two firms enjoyed sales of £1.8 billion last year.

Tarmac owner Anglo American and Lafarge SA have announced intentions to merge the two firms in a deal that is expected to save £60 million per year.

The new firm will combine Lafarge Cement UK, Lafarge Aggregates and Concrete UK and Tarmac Quarry Materials with combined gross assets worth £1.63bn.
