Two St. Louis area companies are playing big roles in the specialized applications of data to streamline work, save money and lives in the field of high-tech mapping.
The mapping process is revolutionizing the way governments and businesses collect and use information.
Environmental Systems Research Institute Inc. (ESRI) specializes in "intelligent mapping" and "good science," by linking computer images with administrative databases, said regional manager Stephen Kinzy. At TASC Inc., the goal is to "get the right information to the right people at the right time" to support decision making, said K. Stuart Shea, vice president and director of the Information Management Strategic Business Unit.
Both ESRI and TASC perform a substantial amount of classified work for federal government agencies, including the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA); the Department of Defense and others.
But both also serve commercial clients, which use the information provided to operate their companies more efficiently.
