I've often said-partially in jest-that World Wide Web browsers are the terminal emulator of the '90s. But it's time to take that statement a little more seriously.
The network computer, Web-based data entry, and HTML gateways to legacy applications are pushing the Web browser into the realm traditionally filled by 3270 and VT100 terminal emulators-and to a lesser extent, PC X-server software. More vendors are offering "Webified" access to everything from desktop databases to AS/400 and mainframe applications. What's a host connectivity software vendor to do?
