The color laser-printer market gained a new player and some new products from a seasoned contender.
Wilsonville, Ore.-based Tektronix Inc. this month makes its debut in the color laser-printer market with the shipment of the Phaser 540. The product is part of the company's expansion into the office color-printing market.
Until recently, a color laser printer would have been out of the price range for most of its traditional users in the work-group color printer market, said A.J. Rogers, strategic marketing manager.
Tektronix had previously offered products ranging from $1,695 up to $14,995 for a high-end 300-dot-per-inch dye-sublimation printer.
Now shipping, the Phaser 540 allows photographs, scanned images or business graphics to be printed in continuous-tone, selectable 300-dpi or 600-dpi print quality, the company said.
