TELECOMWORLDWIRE-8 January 2001-Telia and Tele2 join forces within 3G/UMTS (C)1994-2001 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com The Swedish telecommunications operators Telia Mobile AB, part of Telia, and Tele2 AB, a wholly-owned subsidiary of NetCom AB, have signed a preliminary agreement to form a 50/50 joint venture to build and operate a 3G/UMTS network. Under the terms of the agreement Telia and Tele2 would have equal access to Tele2's Swedish 3G license. Telia failed to secure a 3G license in Sweden's recent licensing round. The company has alleged that the Swedish National Post and Telecommunications Agency (PTS) made errors in processing the applications and has prepared an appeal of the decision.
