Rating: ** Texas Instruments's Extensa 550CDT scores points for being the least expensive notebook in the group. But the trade-offs are obvious: a 75MHz Pentium processor, a paltry 524MB hard drive, and a screen equipped with yesterday's technology.
The Extensa's screen spans 10.4 inches and delivers crisp, bright color, but its maximum resolution is 640 by 480dpi. As evidenced by the other notebooks, 800 by 600dpi is now the standard. The lower resolution means shabby presentations.
