October will mark the second annual Buy Freedom Month and the biggest Congressional Black Caucus Weekend of all. Both events will strike the chord of economic development as a theme and both are on the leading edge of an emerging Freedom Network of consumers, Black entrepreneurs, churches, Black media, major organizations and thought leaders.
Most Black members of Congress have endorsed the Buy Freedom campaign, which is designed to produce jobs and stable families for Blacks by spending up to 50 percent of our $200 billion with a Freedom Business or professional.
These elected officials of America's premiere Black political organization will never be in a better position to help Blacks in business, and the Black community simultaneously, than between October 1 and 5 when thousands will descend on Washington, D.C. for the caucus braintrusts, legislative workshops, fashion shows and parties. At one event alone more than 7,000 will sit down to dinner at the Washington Hilton Hotel.
Millions and millions of dollars will change hands. And, as usual, it will go mostly from Black to non-Black hands. This year's caucus chairman, however, wants to reverse this trade deficit and stresses the urgency of supporting Buy Freedom businesses in D.C. during the Caucus Weekend and nationwide in the future.
