External modem prices remain virtually unchanged this month, but a host of new super-inexpensive internal modems have appeared on the scene. MaxTech's new $38 XPV56P NetPacer 56Kbps Internal Voice Modem skips to the top of the chart, due mainly to its ultralow price. The NetPacer is among the slowest 56-kbps units we've tested, but it retails for only a third to a half of the cost of other internal modems.
