The plastic vegetable and fruit pens were crated up along with the refrigerator magnets shaped like shopping carts, cook books and wooden spoons and M&T Bank turned out the lights Jan 25 at five of its Erie County supermarket branches.
Six years after the first M&T branch opened in a Buffalo-area Tops supermarket at Grant and Amherst streets, the bank is priming its branches.
The closings in Erie County came one week after three branches in Tops stores in Rochester and Monroe County were vacated.
Eight other M&T branches in Tops supermarkets in western and central New York will stay open. They are in Buffalo, Depew, Dunkirk, Olean, Rochester, Webster, Greece and Auburn.
Bank spokesman Michael Zabel says there are no plans at this time to close them.
