Abstract

When Dave Snider Music Centre signed up for peaksaver, it signed up to help reduce strain on Toronto's electricity grid. When hot weather places a heavy load on Toronto's electric system, its air conditioning will automatically cycle down, decreasing the need to import power from dirty coal-fired plants. Not only is Dave Snider Music Centre feeling good about taking a load off Toronto, it also received $25 from Toronto Hydro just for signing up. If needed, Toronto Hydro is able to take 40 megawatts, equivalent to 13,000 homes, off the grid thanks to Dave Snider Music Centre and the other 33,000 residential and small commercial customers who are peaksaver participants in Toronto.
