Candy manufacturers didn't hesitate in denouncing a lawsuit by a Californian environmental group claiming that chocolates contained high levels of lead and cadmium, thereby posing a health hazard. The American Environmental Safety Institute said that chocolate companies such as Kraft, Hershey, Mars and others are not disclosing the amount of toxic metals prevalent in their products as mandated by California law. Under Proposition 65, warnings must be given to individuals before they are exposed to hazardous and dangerous chemicals.
