NEW ROCHELLE -- The largest automobile dealership in southern Westchester changed hands last week as the embattled owners of Crabtree Automotive sold 10 showrooms to Tri Star Automotive Group.
The new owners are principals of Imported Cars of Greenwich, Conn., one of the leading Mercedes Benz dealerships in New England.
Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
Robert Crabtree, owner of Crabtree Automotive, did not return calls for comment on the reason for the sale of the dealerships, which are located near or along Route 1 in New Rochelle and Larchmont.
Crabtree also operates several automobile dealerships in Connecticut, including Crabtree-Haas Cadillac-Oldsmobile Inc. of Shelton, Crabtree-Haas Mitsubishi of Shelton and Crabtree-Haas Toyota of Westport. The Connecticut dealerships were not part of the acquisition.
At a press conference last week in New Rochelle, Tri Star president and chief operating officer Charles H. Wilk announced that the company had signed a management agreement with Crabtree, taking control of the 10 dealerships.
Tri Star will acquire all of Crabtree Automotive's stock under a deal that is scheduled to be completed this week, Wilk said.
