Although the cause probably will not be released for one year, the general belief is that USAir Flight 1016, which crashed July 2 in Charlotte, N.C., was due to a sudden downward thrust of cool air, known as a wind shear. The entire transcript of the cockpit voice recorder will be available in the next few weeks, which should aid the investigation.
