Through proper selection of the wave, guide type, the design of radar cutoff filters becomes a simple task.
MANY satellite ground stations require waveguide highpass filters for use as radar cutoff filters in the receive path and as receiveband noise-suppression filters in the transmit path. In most cases, a waveguide can be chosen that directly meets the stopband and passband specification-making the highpass filter design simple and straightforward. This is demonstrated by the design of a waveguide filter for extended C-band operation.
The highpass characteristic of rectangular waveguide makes them particularly useful for filter applications. Below the rectangular waveguide's cutoff frequency (f^sub c^), there is no real propagation. The value of fc can be approximated by: d, lambda and (lambda)^sub c^ are specified in the same units of distance).
