Before Alias/Wavefront, a subsidiary of Silicon Graphics Inc., releases a software package to its clientele of professional animators working in film, graphics and multimedia, it undertakes a rigorous program of testing. The company boasts a worldwide reputation for excellence and has earned several awards and Academy Award nominations. Its list of film and video clients includes Boss Films, Cinesite, CNN, Digital Domain, Dream Quest Images, Industrial Light + Magic, Metro-light Studios, NBC, Pixar, Sony Pictures Imageworks, The Walt Disney Co. and Warner Brothers.
In early 98, Alias released Maya, a 3D animation software product designed to streamline workflow and increase productivity. When computer graphics was taking off about 10 years ago, the software evolved very quickly and new features were piled onto the original programs. Maya is considered a revolutionary advance since it contains a new foundation that allows for more bandwidth in one product, bringing together modeling, animation rendering and dynamics.
