Le Hong Phong Gifted Students Secondary School was founded in 1927 with four boarding courses. Initially it was called the College De Cochinchine. In 1990, its name was changed to Le Hong Phong Gifted Students Secondary School. In 1995, the school was recognised as one of the foremost educational establishments in the south of the country. The school has educated a number of Vietnam's most talented scientists such as professor Tran Dai Nghia, professor - academician Luu Tuu Phuoc and high ranking government officials such as HCM City municipal Party secretary Truong Tan Sang.
